CHOOSE THE RIGHT ROLLER COVER
The 'nap' or 'pile' is the length of fabric that sticks up from the backing. Roller covers are made in many different nap heights from 3/16" to 1-1/2". The rule of thumb is that the smoother the surface, the shorter the nap. 3/16" Smooth surfaces; untextured plaster, smooth wood and wallboard, drywall and metal
3/8" ~ 1/2" Medium surfaces; sand finishes, lightly textured plaster or wood, paneling and acoustical tile
3/4" ~ 1-1/2 Rough Surfaces; brick and concrete, stucco, textured ceiling or walls, Spanish Plaster, corrugated metal and rough wood

ROLLER TIPS

1. Filling the tray. Don't fill the tray more than 1/3 full. Next, be sure to load the entire surface of the roller cover with paint. The best way is to roll it slowly down the tray into the paint, then back -several times- letting the roller absorb. A tray grid is helpful in preventing overloading.

2. Preconditioning. All synthetic covers require some form of preconditionaing. Before using latex paints, the cover should be lubricated with water from a faucet or garden hose and then spun to remove the excess moisture. (this will prevent a lack of paint release due to attaching fibers.) Before use in oil based paints, the cover should be lubricated in the solvent in which the paint is thinned. Mohair covers should also be preconditioned in the solvent in which the paint is thinned. Lambskin covers, due to their natural oils do no require preconditioning. Preconditioning your cover will greatly improve its performance.

3. Paint walls from the top down. Start wall painting by rolling a large "W" in a space about 3' x 3'. Then fill in between the gaps...blending into your initial strokes. Always work from the unpainted into the painted surface. When you start another area, repeat the process.

4. Clean up right away. Consult your roller cover packaging for the manufacturer's recommended cleaning instructions. Generally, when using oil based paints, enamel or varnish, clean with turpentine or mineral spirits. For latex or water-base paints, clean with water. before cleaning, remove cover from frame.

5. Dry and store with care. After washing roller cover, string roller on a rope or dowel to aid in drying. Don't stand roller on end or lay it on its nap. Dry thoroughly before storing in dust free cabinets or boxes
